Cleaning in hospital and cleanroom environments has always been a highly regulated with a need for extreme cleanliness to ensure that any bacterium is completely eliminated. To ensure this is carried out correctly the liquids used for cleaning need to be sterilised using gamma radiation. For this a special type of trigger sprayer is required
A customer wanted a more cost effective and efficient solution than a ‘bag in a bottle’. The trigger needed to be able to withstand gamma radiation and ensure there is no air contamination to the liquid.
Canyon Europe worked in a partnership with the Polymer Process Research Centre at Queen’s University, Belfast in order to overcome these problems. As a result they developed an innovative design of the venting valve ensuring that there is no contaminated air returning into the bottle after sterilisation. A change in the material of the spring was also required to ensure that it still functioned correctly after sterilisation.
