Canyon wins KTP Business Impact Award

Canyon Europe has been presented with the Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP) new Business Impact Award at a gala dinner in London.

Knowledge Transfer Partnerships is Europe’s leading knowledge transfer programme, helping businesses improve their competitiveness and productivity through better use of the knowledge, technology and skills that reside within the UK knowledge base.

The new Business Impact Award is presented to the Business that has benefited the most from its KTP project in the 12 months following the project completion date. This year’s winner Canyon Europe Ltd specialise in the design and manufacture of high quality and innovative trigger sprays and dispensers. Their KTP with the Polymer Process Research Centre (PPRC) at Queen’s University Belfast aimed to reduce raw material costs through a programme of material substitution and quality improvements, to further introduce new product development capabilities, optimise manufacturing processes, and reduce waste through data-analysis and the implementation of new tools and processes.

Since October 2007, when the KTP project finished, the KTP has continued to have a positive impact on the business. Examples of this include:

·        The number of manufactured units per annum has risen from 100million to 125 million and is still increasing

·        Canyon Europe Ltd is now the largest manufacturing facility of Canyon Corporation’s four manufacturing sites by a significant margin

·        European market share has increased from 22% to 28%

Commenting on the KTP project, Hugh Ross, Managing Director of Canyon Europe Ltd said “The KTP has allowed the Company to develop its capabilities and customer offerings, which in turn has grown our market share and transformed the business. It has produced beneficial outcomes beyond our initial goals, established innovative R&D capabilities, and a partnership with Queen’s University is still ongoing on other projects”
